Parc Penallta & Parc Cwm Darran 23/04/2017

Although a little windy it seemed a bit warmer in the morning enough to bring out a few Large Red Damsels at the horse-shoe ponds Penallta, four in total three of which must have just emerged judging by their colour and still near their casts.

At P.C.D. there was only One to be found again just emerged that morning.

We could do with a little bit of rain now as the ponds were quite low.

Old canal - Forest Farm

Several female Large Red Damselfly on the edge of the old canal yesterday, where the lily pads are just appearing. Saw one that had obviously had problems emerging - with tangled wings and a wonky abdomen. No males seen.

Lavernock NR 09/04/2017

Yes Howard I concur the Dragons are making a comeback, found today at the small pond at Lavernock NR a new emergence of Large Reds. About a dozen or more flew up from the reeds and a few more which had just emerged still drying off on the reeds.

Lets hope a good sign of things to come.

Damsels are back ...

Look what turned up in the garden this afternoon - unless I'm mistaken, a stunning female Large Red Damselfly. I am a suitably happy 'grumpy old man'.
