Lavernock NR on Sunday 26/05/2013 Four female Broad-bodied Chasers looking for a mate, not one showed.

Then went across to Cosmeston and on the small pond near the visitor centre I found a male Broad-bodied Chaser and no females.

Lets hope they find each other soon.

Large Red Damselfly at Nelson Bog

Martin Bell recorded Large Red Damselfly (2) at Nelson Bog, Caerphilly, at midday today.

And we're off!

immature male Hairy Dragonfly

The recent spell of good weather and warm temperatures have enabled a few typical early season dragons to show themselves. This afternoon, around 14:30, 2 Large Red Damselflies and a Hairy Dragonfly were present in the wood between Margam Moors and the Kenfig River. All of them showed some immaturity with respect to their colouration, and images taken confirm each to be male; these features are to be expected of the first dragons of the year.

It's been a long winter waiting for the season to start, but Adam's post below has been a very welcome sign that things are underway again. Let's hope for better weather and a good dragon year.

Rhoose Point

This large red damsel was sitting in the sun this afternoon.  The first odonata of the year for me.
